VFAC Coach John Hill inducted into the BC Athletics Hall of Fame

John has had a very distinguished career as both an athlete and a coach. He won the 1978 Vancouver Marathon, and achieved a personal best time of 2:18 in 1980. Other personal records include a 5,000m time of 14:11 in 1977, and a 10,000m time of 29:22 in 1982, ranking him 4th in Canada. As a coach John has also achieved great success. He is a Certified NCCP Level 2 Coach with a Minor in Kinesiology from SFU. He was the Head and only coach of VFAC since its inception in 1987. Throughout the years he has coached several women and men marathoners to top 10 Canadian Rankings. He also conducts several ongoing road running interval clinics in Vancouver, Surrey and Squamish, and has done so in Kelowna and Coquitlam in the past. As a result of his many merits he has been a guest speaker at numerous coaching clinics including the Y Marathon Clinic, the Sun Run, the RVM, and in Prince George, Terrace, Kelowna, and Gibsons. Other accomplishments include: founding VFAC in 1987, being a Run Canada Committee member 1983 to 1987, an Athletes Rep on BC Athletics Board of Directors 1981-83 during which he initiated the process to change the name to BC Athletics. He was also a BC Road Running Committee member from 1982-1994 and on the Selection Committee for BC Road Runners of the Year Award since inception Along with all the mentioned contributions he had been the Race Director of numerous events.” Congratulations John! The MC commented that he hadn’t seen a reception like that before.
