2014 Club 8K Handicap Race

The annual Club 8K Handicap Race was held in near ideal, sunny conditions on Saturday, Jan. 25. The out and back between 3k and 7k on the Seawall further presaged a fast new year. Shu Sanatani was first home beating the coach’s predicted time by 46 seconds in a solid 30:54.  The next two home, Janette Purdham and Anne-Marie Madden, also easily beat their predicted times, indicating that you can sometimes fool the coach by staying away from workouts for a while before the race and pleading lack of fitness…or offering him a substantial bribe! Actually Anne-Marie had an excellent 28:25 PB, while fastest female Kim Doerksen broke the VFAC record in  27:56, with another huge PB in her first race of 2014, while Ron Loewen was fastest male in a 27:37 PB. Sharon Emslie gamely ran with truly little recent training to snatch the coveted Turtle Award away from it’s virtual “owner” of late, who shall remain anonymous. A great celebratory reload and AGM was held following at Brian Townsend’s. Following are the results in order of descending time:
