VFAC contributes $1500 to Point Grey Track Fundraiser

VFAC is pleased to announce a contribution of $1500 to the Point Grey Track Re-Surfacing Fund (www.pgtrack.com). After major construction during the spring and summer 2006, the deteriorating track and grass fields at Point Grey High School were replaced with new all-weather fields and a new asphalt 400m running track, along with new lights. Despite a large running population, the city of Vancouver lacks an all-weather rubberized running track within city limits, forcing athletes to track to neighbouring communities to train and compete. With major financial and political backing for many interested parties, a fundraising campaign began in the spring to raise enough capital to add an all-weather rubberized surface to the Point Grey track located at East Boulevard and 41st Avenue adjacent to Point Grey High School. This culminated in a fabulous evening of great food and presentations by VANOC CEO John Furlong and motivational speaker Valerie Jerome, sister of the the famous Canadian sprinter Harry Jerome. VFAC is proud to support this initative as our club member benefit greatly from this training facility. We hope to take advantage of the newly surfaced track, along with many other clubs and members of the public by next summer.
